An Elusive Diagnosis - Posterior Cortical Atrophy: OAJBS Publishers

Image
An Elusive Diagnosis - Posterior Cortical Atrophy by Asia Filatov* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS)   Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) is a neurodegenerative syndrome characterized by progressive apraxia, dyslexia and most strikingly, loss of visual perceptual and visuospatial ability. In most cases, neurodegeneration of the occipital, parietal, and posterior temporal cortices occur as a consequence of the Visual Variant of Alzheimer disease (AD). Less frequent etiologies include Corticobasal Degeneration, Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and the Heidenhain variant of prion disease. It is unknown what predisposes these conditions to present as PCA. Given its rarity and variable presentations, misdiagnosis is common. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman with PCA who was initially undiagnosed. She measurably improved on donepezil and memantine suggesting AD as its pathogenesis. https://biomedscis.com/fulltext/an-elusive-diagnosis-posterior-cortical-atrophy.ID.0003

Psychotropic Medications and Heart: OAJBS Publishers

Image
Psychotropic Medications and Heart by Ajay Wagle* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) Knowledge of cardiac actions and adverse effects of psychotropic medications is essential for safe prescribing of medications and take informed decisions in a clinically defensible manner. The main groups of psychotropic medications (antipsychotics, antidepressants, and mood stabilizers) have actions on cardiac conduction, rhythm, blood pressure; and are associated with potentially serious cardiovascular side-effects. They are occasionally associated with serious adverse events such as myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. Second-generation antipsychotics and antidepressants are routinely prescribed as first-line treatments for psychiatric conditions, but they are also associated with cardiovascular side-effects and, in case of some of second-generation antipsychotics, higher burden of cardiometabolic side-effects. Once started on treatment, careful monitoring and vigilance is required. T

The Effect of Tissue Organization and Homeostasis on Inflammatory Cytoskeletal Signaling in Cancer: OAJBS Publishers

The Effect of Tissue Organization and Homeostasis on Inflammatory Cytoskeletal Signaling in Cancer by Ali Ahmadi* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) Tissue organization and homeostasis are based on a set of circuits that include inflammatory signaling that regulates the tissue environment. Imbalance of these connections may lead to inflammatory diseases and suppression of the immune system, as occurs in chronic viral infections and cancer [1]. With interferon type I (IFN-Is) as key stimuli IFN-I are produced by virus-infected cells to create an inherent cellular antiviral status in neighboring cells to eliminate infection. However, long-term IFN-I signaling leads to impaired immune function by inducing suppressive agents that impair immunity to promote tissue organization and homeostasis [2]. Imbalance of these connections may lead to inflammatory diseases and immunosuppression, as occurs in chronic viral infections and cancer, with interferon type I (IFN-Is) as key

Origination of Macrocyclic Formazan with Macrocyclic Sulfazan and Triazan as Innovated Compounds and Compared Their efficiency Against Breast Cancer by Nagham Mahmood Aljamali* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) Macrocyclic Sulfazan and Macrocyclic Formazan were created and developed globally for the first time by researcher Dr. Nagham Aljamali in April 2021, while same researcher created and innovated Sulfazan compounds as the first time in 2019., Therefore, these compounds considered one of the developed and modern compounds which have a lack of references or scarcity of books and researches. Therefore, the researcher, Dr. Nagham prepared and created a chain of these innovated compounds and studied by numerous applications, containing biological, pharmaceutical studies, also as antifungal, antibacterial, anticancer agents, and here in this research, also cyclic sulfazan and cyclic formazan were studied a several applications. A numeral of practical spectroscopic stu

A Systematic Review on Challenges Faced by Family Caregivers of Cancer Patients by Mehrnaz Keramatikerman in OAJBS Research gate   Objective: The cancer is one of the deadliest illnesses in the world which may last for a long period of time and require special medical attentions. The family of cancer patients as primary caregivers play a key role in taking care of the patient by spending long hours at home or hospital. They may suffer various challenges during their role as a caregiver which includes various challenges.   Methodology: A systematic review conducted on databases encompasses PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar from establish of database to by following the collective strategy of Cochrane Collaborative Group.  Results : A review on different challenges that are faced by family caregivers of cancer patients it was revealed that financial hardship, depression, isolation, emotional and physical burdens, time management, privacy insufficiency, and sle
