Statistics in Health... Is There a Connection Between School and Workplace Statistics? by Rosa Santos Oliveira* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) The objective of this work was to test the bioactivity of the different extracts and fractions of the leaves of Plectranthus grandis and to determine their lethal concentrations on Biomphalaria glabrata. For the bioassays, seven crude extracts obtained in soxhlet extractor with organic solvents and five fractions were used by flash filtration chromatography. The bioassays were performed in 200mL glass and 24-well plates, using 1674 mollusks in the bioassays. The results showed that the 500mg/L beaker tests obtained 100% mortality rate for the crude extracts in hexane and dichloromethane and 93% for chloroform extract. In plaque tests, the dichloromethane extracts the lowest CL90=318mg/L. The mortality rate with the fractions was 100% at a concentration of 300mg/L. It was concluded that the tests performed on cups and plat...

Massive Pulmonary Embolism in Pregnancy and Perimortum Caesrean Section: OAJBS Publishers

Massive Pulmonary Embolism in Pregnancy and Perimortum Caesrean Section by Karim Botros* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) In pregnancy, the incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) is increased fivefold when compared to nonpregnant women of the same age, and PE is one of the leading causes of death during pregnancy. However, the diagnosis of PE among pregnant women is complicated by concerns regarding radiation exposure. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman G4P3 at 38+3 weeks gestation with an acute PE that required Perimortem Caesarian section, CPR of the mother followed by Thrombolysis for massive Pulmonary Embolism. https://biomedscis.com/fulltext/massive-pulmonary-embolism-in-pregnancy-and-perimortum-caesrean-section.ID.000332.php To Know More About Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science Please Visit: Biomedscis Are Click on:   https://Biomedscis.Com/

An In-Depth Study of TCA cycles, OPA1, S6K1, ATPase, TLR4, MHC-class-I, GCs, and IFNs Biosynthesis, and Their Roles of Deficiency in Diabetes, Asthma, Cancer, etc. and the NAD Roles in their Activities by Ashraf Marzouk El Tantawi* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) Background: Plummer Vinson syndrome is a rare cause of dysphagia in children. It associates an oesophageal organic stenosis to a sideropenic anemia.  Case Reports: Two Tunisian boys aged respectively 14 and 9 years-old were admitted to investigate dysphagia for solid foods. The adolescent patient was a black and he suffers from food blocking since 2 years ago. The assessment revealed a sideropenic anemia due to intestinal giardiasis. While the second patient was followed for a chronic anemia since he was 3 years old. For both of them, the swallow barium exploration showed an annular stenosis of the cervical esophagus mimicking “a thread knotted on a round tube” related to a circular web identifie...

Effects of a Low Dose X-Ray Irradiation and Simulated Microgravity on Physiological, Oxidative Stress Biomarker and Metabolomics Adaptations: OAJBS Publishers

Effects of a Low Dose X-Ray Irradiation and Simulated Microgravity on Physiological, Oxidative Stress Biomarker and Metabolomics Adaptations by P Chowdhury* in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science (OAJBS) This aim of this study is to utilize a ground-based rat model of hindlimb unloading and examine the effect of 0.3 GY radiation on oxidative stress biomarker and metabolomics adaptations. Methods: For this study, we have used four groups (four rats per group) for three weeks in the following order: 1) non-suspended control (CON), 2) irradiated non-suspended (IR), 3) irradiated plus hindlimb suspended (IR+HLS) and 4) hindlimb suspended (HLS). IR and IR+HLS groups were exposed to five sessions of X-ray irradiation (0.3 Gy each daily). Body weight, food and water intakes measured daily. At term, the animals were anesthetized with isoflurane, blood was drawn in a syringe to collect serum for protein and metabolomics assays. Lipid peroxidation was measured on collected tissue sam...
