In the following period he worked on DNA damage and repair, in particular investigating the DNA Mismatch Repair system and its role in the processing of exogenous DNA lesions produced by genotoxic agents. Since 2009 he was appointed as expert of genetic toxicology in international committees for risk assessment; in particular he was member of the Expert panel on feed additives of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for three consecutive mandates.
