Bassem S Ibrahim
is Graduated from Ain Shams University Medical School. He worked and trained in
UK hospitals in General Medicine & Cardiology from 1986-1992. Dr. Ibrahim
joined the National Heart Institute (NHI), Cairo in 1992 and completed training
in clinical and interventional Cardiology. He became a Fellow of the American
College of Cardiology, (FACC) in 2003, and in the following year Ibrahim was
elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, (FRCP). Ibrahim
has established himself as a national leader in heart failure. He started the
first specialized Heart Failure Clinic in Egypt in 2008. In July 2010 he
founded the first Heart Failure Unit in Egypt and became Director of HF Department
since then. NHI HF unit registry includes more than 700 patients. Ibrahim is
leading a team of middle grade and young cardiologists aspired to be the next
generation of HF specialists. Ibrahim introduced the discipline of HF
specialized nurse and shared in the establishment of the first heart failure
patient support group. Dr Ibrahim’s lectures have contributed to the increase
of public awareness of the magnitude of heart failure problem. Dr Ibrahim has a
special interest in right ventricular failure, peripartum cardiomyopathy, and
HF with preserved EF. Ibrahim is the Principal Investigator of site of several
international trials and Registries including; TIMI 51, QUALIFY, ESC HF-long
term, REPORT-HF, and Peripartum CM. He has a dedication for teaching and is
regular examiner in PACES MRCP (UK) clinical exam. Ibrahim has published 10
papers mostly in heart failure and supervised 5 MSc and MD theses in the same
field. Currently he is a member of Peripartum Study Group of Heart Failure
Association (HFA) of the ESC. He is engaged in teaching roles with the Royal
College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Ibrahim was an elected Board Member of the
Egyptian Heart Failure Working Group (from 2015-2017). Currently, Consultant
Cardiologist & Lead of Heart Failure services, North Cumbria University
